Member Projects

PPQ member Carole has kindly allowed two of her recent projects to be featured here on our site. Being the prolific sewist that she is, Carole wasted no time finishing her Mystery Quilt workshop blocks into a very pretty quilt for her young granddaughter. What a delight the lavender fabric is Carole!

Also, this incredible king size quilt. Carole has used sea themed panels, with beautifully co-ordinating fabrics to create this stunning work. It too, is a gift for her family, who no doubt will enjoy many nights snuggling on the sofa watching tv! Thank you for sharing your work here Carole.

A Fun Mystery Workshop for Members

Our wonder member (& past president) Faye took us through a fun Mystery Quilt Workshop in April. Faye is our resident Mystery 'master', & at least once a year PPQ members can choose to participate in Faye's sewing fun.

Armed with colourful scraps & a background fabric, participants had a great day & made varying degrees of progress with our Mystery, which turns out to be a Jewel Box quilt block & quilt.

These events are just one of the many perks of being a member of our great Club. You can find out more by visiting us at Henry Street Pinjarra, calling us on 9531 1026, or clicking on the tab to the left titled Club Membership.

Thanks again Faye for a fun day of sewing!

A Quilt Block Challenge for 2022

This year, we are having a challenge/project, focussed on a quilt block called Sawtooth Star. Participating members make one block per month for 2022. Blocks can be any size, any variation, and members can make any project they choose.

Here is some progress from some of the ladies, aren't they beautiful?!

A Stay-At-Home Retreat

In February, our club held its first Stay-At-Home Retreat for 2022. Beginning Friday evening & going through until mid-Sunday, we sew at the club, but go home for the night. A very enjoyable time, and a great opportunity to see what our club friends are sewing!

Can You Really Sew With 'Crumbs'? YES!

It just needs to be the right sort of 'crumbs'!

Many quilters have a hard time throwing away even the tiniest of scraps when our projects are finished, but rarely seem to get around to actually doing anything with them. This is where the technique of 'crumb sewing' or 'crumb quilting' is very handy indeed. Crumb sewing is the sewing together of those little scraps, creating a new piece of fabric. That can then be used in any way the maker chooses... quilt blocks, bag panels, an artsy wall hanging, quilt sashing, coasters, placemats... anything you can imagine!

Our PPQ crumb sewing queens Philippa & Veronica were our tutors on Saturday 19 February, to teach us this technique, & showed us some of the items they've made from their own crumb sewing. Very inspiring indeed.

13 PPQ members spent the day picking bits & bobs from their scraps, sewing them together & having a very fun time in the process. For some of us, crumb sewing is certainly a big departure from our usual patchwork mindset of order & co-ordination! However, it seems safe to say that we all thoroughly enjoyed learning a new way of using our beloved scraps to make more things.

Many thanks to Veronica & Philippa for taking us through it, and introducing us to this fun technique!

Many workshops at PPQ are free for members to attend; a wonderful benefit of being part of this great club. If this interests you, please drop in to see us - we're open every day - or you can call us on 9531 1026
